Guiyang, capital of Guizhou province, is counting on artificial intelligence (AI) to improve public services and the lives of its citizens with help from Chinese AI firm Xiaoi.

The Shanghai-based company has begun applying AI technology in Guiyang’s public sectors, including business services, human resources and traffic control. After a year’s development and testing, Xiaoi’s smart systems realize automated processing of government affairs, increasing efficiency without dampening user experience.

The Interactive Voice Response system at the Guiyang Industrial and Commercial Bureau, for example, offers consulting service and takes care of complaints around the clock. It can even play the role of a mediator in business disputes.

Xiaoi has also installed intelligent terminals with information access ranging from medical treatment and civil affairs to senior care in many neighborhoods throughout the city. More Xiaoi applications will be on display at the 3rd Guiyang Big Data Expo scheduled from May 25-28.

Guiyang, a state-level big data experimental zone, plans to apply AI technology in more sectors, including tourism and finance, in the near future.
