CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Apeng means “magnificent and beautiful” in the Tujia language. With a length of 249km, Apeng River runs from Lichuan City, Hubei Province to the Wujiang River, passing through the Qianjiang River and Gongtan Town, Youyang County. As the only river flowing from east to west in China, it is praised as “the jade belt in remote mountains and the symbol of Miao Ethnicity.” In addition, it is also one of the rare beautiful and gentle rivers in China.

Youyang Apeng River Scenic Area owns the most favorable reach of the gorge landscape of Apeng River. Among its various and concentrated scenic spots, the “15 sceneries of Pengjiang River” are the most famous.

Apeng River is the only river flowing from northeast to southwest. It integrates numerous features including primitive gorge and river, hot spring cave, geyser, natural stone bridge and subsurface stream. Green mountains, blue river, bold cliff, thick trees and dense bamboos can be observed everywhere in the gorge.
