Waterscape to relief sculptures to display 12 scenes along the Three Gorges

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The Shapingba District Government of Chongqing reports that the Three Gorges Square transformation project will be completed soon. It is expected to open as early as the May Day. The largest change of the transformation project is that the iconic waterscape of Three Gorges Square is transformed into relief sculptures showing the scenery of Three Gorges. People can walk on the relief sculptures to feel closer to the culture of Three Gorges.

The Three Gorges Square was built in 1998. The waterscape on the Square is one of the core landscapes and the water screen film is the common memory of many Chongqing people. Why do they transform the waterscape into relief sculptures? The waterscape has existed for many years, so the water seepage situation gets worse and worse and accidents easily happen on both sides. There is no recirculating water for the waterscape, so the water easily gets dirty and smelly.

At present, the floor relief sculptures are almost completed and the construction is entering the last stage. On the ground of the original water area, 12 famous scenes from Chaotianmen to the Three Gorges Dam basin will appear in the form of relief sculptures: Chaotianmen, Fulin Beiyan Inscriptions, Fengdu Ghost Stone Carvings, Zhongxian Shibaozhai, Wanzhou Three Gorges Immigrant Culture, Yunyang Zhang Fei Temple, Fengjie Baidicheng, Wushan Twelve Mountain Peaks, Badong Boat Tracker Song, Zigui Qu Yuan Hometown, Nanjinguan Three Gorges Families, and the Yichang Gezhou Dam.

Three Gorges Square was Chongqing’s only business district with large waterscape

Three Gorges Square’s waterscape was from the Sanjiaobei Roundabout on the east and Chenjiawan Overpass on the west, 400 meters long and about 50 meters wide, covering a total area about 20,000m2 with about 1,600m3 water. It was built based on the main sceneries along the Three Gorges of Yangtze River in the section from Chongqing Chaotianmen to Hubei Yichang, showing the magic and magnificent scenery of Three Gorges and the spectacular Three Gorges Project.

When the Three Gorges Square was built, it was Chongqing’s only business district with large waterscape at that time. In 2015, the waterscape on Three Gorges Square was changed into a 100-meter long sea of Galsang flowers. After that, the Three Gorges Square transformation project was begun.
