Here is a brief introduction to some Chongqing’s representative sculptures:

1. Four Seasons Chongqing Yangtze River Bridge

On the bridgeheads of Chongqing Yangtze River Bridge, which connects two banks along Yangtze River, are impressive a set of four sculptures, Four Seasons. Finished in September 1984, it consists of four sculptured figures representing the four seasons in human’s life journey.

2. Memories in Mountain City Hongyadong, Yuzhong district

Located in Hongyadong, Yuzhong district, along the Jialing River, Memories in Mountain City is a representative work of Guo Xuanchang, a famed sculptor. Unveiled in 2005, it is a 13.8-meter-high bronze sculpture. A combination of idealism and romanticism, it creatively piles together more than 20 stilted buildings. Such piling together of native buildings tries to give visitors some understanding of natives’ resilient spirits.

3. Imperishable Heroic Spirit Cemetery of Revolutionary Martyrs at Geleshan, Chongqing

Composed of 438 pieces of red granite, it promotes Hongyan culture in war-time Chongqing. The sculpture’s loftiness and greatness vividly represent the noble image of revolutionary martyrs. It consists of four themes: the front side is featured with “unyielding spirit”, shared among a multitude of exceedingly courageous revolutionary martyrs; the right side is featured with “endless fighting”, the cherished heroic spirits passed among generations of revolutionary martyrs; the left side is featured with “sacrifices in prison”, representing arrested martyrs’ desire to sacrifice themselves to make a brighter future for generations to come; and the obverse side is featured with “upcoming sunlight”, depicts the deep sympathy and confidence harbored by martyrs in extreme hardship.

4. Legend of Guanyinqiao Guanyinqiao, Jiangbei district

Finished in 2005, it is made of natural granite, weighing more than 1800 tons and occupying 800 square meters. It is inspired by a small stone bridge just several meters long, a previous structure in the Guanyinqiao business area. Legend of Guanyinqiao, a new landmark in Chongqing, harmoniously combines bridge, its theme, recreational square, huge modern scene sculpture, and huge potted-culture sculpture.
