The National Tourism Administration and Chinese Academy of Sciences recently released a list of the top ten science and technology attractions in China, ranking first among them the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Radio Telescope (FAST) located in Pingtang county, Qiannan Buyei and Miao Autonomous Prefecture.

First completed on September 25, 2016, the site attracted 220,000 visitors over the 2017 May Day holiday. Also known as the “Eye of Heaven”, FAST has a reflector as large as 30 soccer fields, making it the world's largest radio telescope.

Guizhou intends to invest 5 billion yuan ($726.5 million) to develop tourism in the surrounding area, including a radio astronomy learning center, a karst geological park and a sci-fi-themed hotel.

Also listed as top Chinese science attractions were the XTBG, the Three Gorges Dam Project on the Yangtze River in Hubei province and the Purple Mountain Observatory in Nanjing.
