CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- According to the Chongqing Rail Group, the first train to be employed in LRT loop and Line 5 has completed assembly and is undergoing debugging procedures at the train factory. After the train is fully debugged, it will arrive in Chongqing in latter half of May. The As-train is exclusively employed in LRT loop and Line 5 in Chongqing.

Strong grade ability & the maximum passenger capacity of 2716 people in a 7-car train

The trains to be employed in LRT loop and Line 5 are mountain type-A train, shortened to “As-train.” Based on the standard type-A and type-B trains, the As-train is a new model with strong grade ability, superb adaptability in small-radius curved track, and large freight volume. It can better serve LRT in Chongqing, where some problems unique to the Mountain City are important, such as navigating the abundant slopes, small turning radius, and embedded depth of station.

The As-train boasts of maximum body width of 3 meters and maximum operating speed of 100 kilometers per hour. In preliminary stage, it will be a 6-car train consisting of 5 locomotives and 1 dragging train, whose maximum capacity is 2322 people; then, it will be a 7-car train consisting of 6 locomotives and 1 dragging train, whose capacity is 2716 people. The 8-car-train scheme is reserved for future changes in passenger flow volume, whose arrangement should depend upon specific circumstances.

The trains to be employed in LRT loop and Line 5 are the same in exterior appearance; it is the color of line identification on and inside the train body that tells them apart: the line identification in Line 5 is in light blue; the line identification in loop is lemon yellow.
