Karamay seeks cooperation with SOU
Jiang Dongdong, deputy secretary of the Karamay municipal committee, led a delegation to visit Shanghai Open University (SOU) on May 9 to seek cooperation in education.
Jiang Dongdong said that exchanges between Shanghai and Karamay should not cover only economy, but also education and medical care.
Jiang hopes SOU can become a new force to support and assist Karamay’s education development.
SOU is a university specializing in distance education in telecommunications, broadcasting, television, computers and other technology-based subjects.
Yuan Wen, president of Shanghai Open University, suggested that both sides make joint efforts to open a civil health college, an oil workers education college and a training base in Karamay.
Jiang Dongdong recommended that Shanghai Open University open a branch in Karamay to seize opportunities brought by the Belt and Road, further developing itself and promoting Karamay’s education.
As of Jan 2017, SOU has opened 40 campus branches and teaching sites in Shanghai with approximately 70,000 undergraduates.
