KIEV, May 23 (Xinhua) -- A cultural exchange delegation from China on Tuesday gave a lecture on Chinese cultural diversity and traditional arts to the students of Kiev Taras Shevchenko National University (KNU).

In particular, the lecture, which has attracted the audience of about 300 people, offered insights into Tibetan history, culture, medicine, Buddhism philosophy and arts.

Karina Kolyadych, a third-year student at the KNU's faculty of regional studies, said the report on Tibetan thangka art, the form of scroll paintings on paper, cloth or silk, which has a 1,300-year-old history, has kindled her particular interest.

"During this lecture, I learned a lot about Chinese art, especially about thangka art. It is very similar to the Ukrainian art of embroidery and other styles of painting. I also was pleased to learn new things about Tibet," Kolyadych told Xinhua.

The lecturers also introduced cultural features of other China's ethnic groups to the Ukrainian public, stressing harmony and equality among people of all China's 56 ethnic groups.

While speaking after the lecture, a student of the KNU's faculty of international information, Ketevan Harsheladze, said that ethnically diversed Ukraine has to learn from China's experience in building the harmonious society.

The Chinese delegation of the Tibetan cultural exchange, led by Zheng Dui, Secretary-General of China Tibetology Research Center, arrived in Kiev on May 20 for a four-day visit.
