A man got allergy after eating three loquats

2017-05-26 11:22:04

Another unexpected allergen: false teeth

There are also some other unexpected allergens in addition to loquats.

Doctor Zhang Bin once received a patient allergic to false teeth at the Dermatological Department of Xinqiao Hospital.

Zhang Bin said that this patient had been bothered by itching red spots on skin for a year, but the allergen was still unknown after visiting several hospitals.

Then the doctor learned that such symptoms did not occur until the patient put in ceramic teeth. After a patch test, it was revealed that he is allergic to metals.

Doctor Zhang stated that metal allergy is caused by an immune system disorder, and the symptom is contact dermatitis. Most of the metals in ceramic teeth contain nickel or are electroplated with nickel, to which some people may be allergic. This is the cause of itching skin and mucosa with erythema.

According to Zhang Bin, metal buttons, belt fasteners, metal necklaces, watches, coins, even some clamshell phones containing nickel will also lead to allergy. Metal allergy is even more serious in summer, as the chemical components in sweat (such as saline ions) will make such metallic elements more active, and it is easier for them to enter our skin.

All allergic symptoms will disappear as long as the patients figure out and keep away from the allergens as soon as possible. In addition, doing exercise to improve our immunity will also help to prevent allergies. (Translated by Sun Jiuyang, Fathom Language Limited)
