SAN FRANCISCO, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Jeremy Joseph Christian, the suspect who stabbed two people to death and injured another last Friday on a crowded transit train, was arraigned in Multnomah County Court in U.S. state of Oregon on Tuesday.

Christian, 35, did not say anything during the brief court hearing other than shouting.

Portland Police Bureau said Saturday the suspect was booked at the time on a number charges, including two counts of aggravated murder, one count of attempted murder, two counts of intimidation in the second degree, and one count of felon in possession of a restricted weapon.

The incident took place on a Metropolitan Area Express (MAX) light-rail train Friday afternoon, and witnesses said Christian yelled racial and religious slurs at two girls, one of them wearing a hijab. Three men tried to intervene, then were stabbed by Christian, who then fled the scene at the Hollywood TS Transit station in the largest city of Oregon.

Ricky John Best, 53, a city employee and father of four kids, died at the scene; Taliesin Myrddin Namkai Meche, 23, who recently graduated from college, was pronounced dead at a hospital; Micah David-Cole Fletcher, 21, was treated for injuries.

Christian was seen in some social media postings giving a Nazi salute at a right-wing protest in April.

A grand jury is expected to consider additional charges against the suspect, whose next court appearance will be on June 7.
