CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Customers enter the shop after scanning a QR code with their phone, and they can buy goods and eat food without cash and pay by phone – at the site of the Second Taobao Market Festival. The self-service shop “Taocafe” created by Alibaba Group was officially launched on July 11. This reporter went to the site of Taobao Market Festival and experienced the whole shopping process at “self-service shop”.
The “self-service shop” launched by Ali is named “Taocafe”, and covers an area about 200m2 and is integrated with shopping and catering functions. It can accommodate more than 50 users.
How does the “self-service shop” run? Firstly, users need to scan the QR code by mobile Taobao to enter the shop and then they can select goods at the shop. Different from common shopping, users don’t need to check out at checkout counter and can leave after voluntary payment via a “payment channel”.
Catering services are also provided in the shop. When ordering, users need to face the screen with the face recognition function and say the goods needed, and then the system will automatically order food and deduct money from their Alipay account. After completion of ordering, the screen can capture user’s figure and display whether the user ordered something, as well as the order number and order processing progress.
According to a source at Alibaba Group, the “self-service shop” is integrated with technologies such as face recognition, machine learning, human tracking and self-service settlement. (Translated by Huang Juan, Fathom Language Limited)
