Chongqing ranks second in 2017 Rankings of Chinese Tourism Cities
CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Chongqing tourism becomes popular again. Recently, Jiemian and Toutiao jointly released the 2017 Rankings of Chinese Tourism Cities, in which Chongqing ranks only second to Beijing.
With composite score only second to Beijing’s and with most tourist arrivals
The publisher made the Rankings of Chinese Tourism Cities from five dimensions, including the tourist arrivals, tourism revenue, tourism proportion, transportation convenience and tourism infrastructure of cities at or above the prefecture level. The data adopted came from authoritative data of CEIC database, National Bureau of Statistics, National Tourism Administration and tourism bureaus of various cities. The top three in the rankings are Beijing, Chongqing and Shanghai, with composite scores of 3.6155, 2.7024 and 2.4588 respectively.
Taking overall consideration of the results of five dimensions, the publisher made such comments on Chongqing: Chongqing received the largest number of tourists from home and abroad and the total tourism revenues in 2016 accounted for 15% of Chongqing’s GDP gross; as the transportation hub in southwest China, Chongqing had roads, railways, water and air routes toward all directions; Chongqing was honored as “Hot Pot City in China”, paradise of foodies.
Meanwhile, Chongqing boasts not only delicious food, but also the unique scenery of the mountain city, large number of tourist attractions, starred hotels and travel agencies can provide multiple choices for tourists.
The strength of Chongqing tourism can also be evidenced by the Bulletin of Chongqing Tourism Statistics in 2016 released by Chongqing Tourism Bureau in this March – in 2016, Chongqing received 451 million tourists from home and abroad, and realized total tourism revenues of 264.521 billion yuan, up 15.1% and 17.5% respectively from a year earlier.
Increasingly famous tourism brand
Actually, the excellent performance in 2017 Rankings of Chinese Tourism Cities of Chongqing is actually an epitome of the increasingly famous tourism brand of Chongqing which has received more and more attention from home and abroad in recent years.
In January 2016, the World Tourism Cities Federation released the Annual Report on Development of World Tourism Cities (2015), in which Chongqing broke into the world’s top 20 and ranked the 16th in the “Rankings of Prosperity Index of World Tourism Cities”; in September of the same year, China Tourism Academy released the “Rankings of Attraction of Chinese Tourism Cities in 2016”, in which Chongqing ranked the third place after Shanghai and Beijing.
In addition, in recent years, Chongqing once became the only Chinese city that was rated as one of the “world’s top 10 tourist destinations” and in the “world’s top 10 most potential destinations” by the international authoritative travel magazine Lonely Planet.
