The map of Chongqing cool place-names from the Chongqing Urban Planning Bureau

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- It’s a dream for most people to enjoy the cool with several friends in the hot summer. In fact, there are many places with coolness in Chongqing. Recently, a cultural map of Chongqing cool places was especially created by the Chongqing Urban Planning Bureau and Chongqing Geographic Information Center. It lists all towns and villages with coolness and coldness all over Chongqing. According to the map, we can enjoy the cool in the cold dam, banks with cold water and cold holes.

It also follows the rules to combine wind and water in these place-names. It shows the natural geographical environment of such places that are cool places with wind and water.

Where are the places with the cool wind? Most of these places with cool wind are located in saddle back or in the mountains. It feels cool as strong winds blow in these places. Naturally, plain villagers usually call their hometown a cool wind or other words with the same meaning.

Where are the places with cool water, cool spring, cold water or cold stream? These places are located at either side of the stream in the mountain or the mouth of mountain spring. It is a cool place because there are many windy and foggy days, resulting in weaker sunlight intensity and lower temperatures in the stream and mountain spring compared with that of surrounding areas.

Cool holes are naturally related to holes and caves. There are various karst landforms in Chongqing, one of the most typical karst areas. In addition, there are lots of holes in the mountains because of streams and other surface actions eroding mountains. They have their own climate in these holes and a relatively constant temperature between 11℃ and 15℃. These places are usually named at cool holes for there is cool wind at the mouth of holes in summer.
