The most famous gorges: The Yangtze Three Gorges

The Yangtze Gorges extend over 193km from Baidi City, Fengjie County of Chongqing in the west to Nanjin Guan of Yichang City, Hubei Province in the east. It’s the prime landscape along the Yangtze River, as well as featuring a treasure of cliffs and bluffs. The Yangtze Gorges consist of the Qutang Gorge, the Wu Gorge and the Xiling Gorge.

The most well-known ghost city: Fengdu

Fengdu Ghost City, a famous place with a history dating from the Han Dynasty, is called the “Ghost City” or “netherworld”. It becomes the resting place of human’s ghost. It is not only the legendary Ghost City, but also a treasure-house of folk customs and culture integrating Confucian, Taoist and Buddhist traditions. The city is also a famous human landscape of golden travel line on the Yangtze River.

The largest karst funnelit—Heavenly Pit

The Heavenly Pit is located at Fengjie County, Chongqing. Heavenly Pit, a unique regional name for karst funnel, is important evidence of the geographical history from the Quaternary period on earth. It forms the “living fossil” of the Yangtze Three Gorges, and is one of the most marvelous cave spectacles in the world.

The diameters of the pithead and pit bottom of the Heavenly Pit are 622m and 522m respectively. It is 666.2m deep. It is surrounded by steep walls and there is a path to the bottom at the northeastern wall.

Standing at the side of the funnel mouth, you will find almost 1,000m of amazing and steep pit wall formation. The Heavenly Pit is a skylight for the underground river at the bottom. Standing at the bottom of the pit, you can enjoy the sky from the well as you looking up.
