ASTANA, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- Tajik President Emomali Rahmon Wednesday called on strengthening education, especially among young people, in a bid to prevent them from joining terrorist groups.

Rahmon noted that in the past few years, some groups in the country were found involved in terrorist activities, posting threat to the independence and territorial integrity of several countries in the region.

For instance, 95 residents, including 35 young people of the Bokhtar district, went abroad to join terrorist groups and participated in military operations in the past five years, he said.

Among them, 17 young people from the district had been killed in foreign countries.

Rahmon said that Ministry of Internal Affairs, General's Prosecutor Office, as well as other related government departments, youth and women associations, teachers and parents were all obliged to increase awareness and strengthen education among all the citizens, especially among young people to prevent such bad and sad things happening again.

"The fight against crimes related to terrorism and extremism is under the daily control of the relevant authorities, all necessary measures are taken to identify and prevent the accession of citizens, especially young people, to terrorist and extremist groups, as well as their participation in armed conflicts abroad," the president said.
