CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Do you look forward to learning about the culture of ancient China since there is a thousand year history of Dunhuang culture in Chongqing? Recently, the reporter went to Yuan Gallery as to show you the stories in the exhibition.

Cartoons and prints consist of a millennium of Dunhuang culture.

Kingdom of Summer Insects, The Sunlight of Mogao Grottoes and their storyboards are exhibited in a special new media for citizens. Pine Dream, a piece of art equipment in the exhibition hall, shows the director, Tang Bohua’s poetic understanding and contemporary explanation of “don’t talk about ice in the winter with insects in the summer”, an allegory of Zhuang Zhou.

There are thousands of cages and straws above and below the work of Pipe Dream. In addition, there is the sound of grasshoppers from the cage. Wang Yan, the exhibition curator, explains that the grasshoppers are one of the summer insects. They will die in the winter, which corresponds to the theme of the cartoon.

Walking among long ladders in the Yuan Gallery, the exhibition hall for The Sunlight of Mogao Grottoes is on the second floor. Wang Yan says that The Sunlight of Mogao Grottoes is a climax of Kingdom of Summer Insects. Mud prints in it are an upgrade of plaster printing in the Kingdom of Summer Insects. In order to show the upgrade, the planning team draws Chinese Zodiacs on the side of the ladder and reflects twelve constellations in the west on the floor by polishing.

In order to produce the 7-minute cartoon The Sunlight of Mogao Grottoes, the team went to Dunhuang. Over 2,000 mud slabs are made by an ancient process used for original decorations of wall painting since from Tang Dynasty. The mud slabs are used to draw rough sketches. Finally, the original condition of Dunhuang frescoes is restored, showing their respect to Dunhuang art.
