2017-09-01 11:34:15

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Pipashan Park is the common memory of several generations of Chongqing citizens. The renovation project of Pipashan Park is going to start soon. Covering an area of about 76,700m2, the project will be carried out in two phases. Phase I covers an area of about 56,700m2 and aims to protect and improve the Park, while Phase II covers about 20,000m2 and aims to expand the area of the Park. At present, the construction drawing design for Phase I project has been completed.

According to the Yuzhong District Heritage Management Office, Wang Lingji, former Chairman of Sichuan Provincial Government of KMT, built a private villa named Wang’s Garden on Pipa Mountain during the Anti-Japanese War. The scale and area of Wang’s Garden is similar to Pipashan Park now.

“Pipashan Park is well known to several generations of Chongqing citizens. Many of those shortcuts in the Park were treaded by us.” According to Li Chenggang, an 85 year-old cadre retired from cultural department of Yuzhong District, the trend of Pipashan Park is closely linked to the habits of citizens at that time. “Many people enjoyed going for a walk with birds in the morning, drinking covered bowl tea, dancing and having authentic Sichuan cuisine at the Honglou Restaurant.”

So how to renovate the Park? Relevant principals of the Yuzhong District Bureau of Municipal Administration and Parks said that the objective of the project is “to continue the memory of the city”. For example, stories of historical figures relevant to Pipa Mountain will be collected to be placed in an exhibition hall of the history of Pipashan Park. In addition, the ornamental value and functions of exercise, fitness, arts and culture creativity of the Park will be improved. (Translated by Sun Jiuyang, Fathom Language Limited)
