The first stage of construction for Chengdu's Jincheng Greenway, the first project of the city's recently released urban greenway construction plan, started on Sept 2.

Multiple greenways will be constructed throughout 2018 in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province.

According to an official from the Chengdu urban and rural construction commission, the city has planned three slow traffic systems incorporating a total of 1,920 km of greenways in to improve the quality of life of local residents.

The Jincheng Greenway will connect over 30 industrial parks in Chengdu. Following a design principal of separating pedestrian and automobile traffic flow, the greenway is expected to provide a better traveling experience for residents.

One 150-km section of greenway features bicycle lanes between 4 to 6 meters wide, capable of accommodating cycling and marathon competitions.

Hundreds of courier stations and supporting facilities for culture, sports and tourism are expected to be built around the greenways, as well as 120,000 parking lots to be constructed.

The greenway construction is expected to be completed by 2025 in Chengdu, local authorities said.
