Hong’an Old Street 洪安老街

Speaking of stilted buildings, people would involuntarily think of the old and mysterious town in western Hunan in the Border Town by Shen Congwen.

Hong’an is the original model of Shen Congwen’s Border Town. The town is full of ancient buildings and Tujia and Miao stocked villages are in a class by themselves, forming a picturesque scene accompanied by the green water. The most interested thing is the cable-driven ferry, which connects the wharfs to either bank by a steel wire.

Chiyou Jiuli City (City of Nine Tribes) 蚩尤九黎城

Jiuli City is located in Pengshui, Chongqing. People here take Chiyou as their ancestor and consider themselves the descendants of the union of nine tribes; and they hold a sacrificial ceremony every year to worship Chiyou.

The most attractive things in Juili City are those stilted buildings built on mountains. The large architectural complex contains over 300 rooms have a big difference in height of 80m. It is the largest complex of stilted buildings in the world. At the foot of the mountain is the world’s largest quadrangle courtyard.
