CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- In order to give higher priority to buses, the first urban bus priority road in Chongqing was officially put into use on September 12. The special lane aims to reduce departure delays, shorten travel time and improve the service level and attractiveness of urban public transport. It is reported that this bus priority lane was established beginning at Lianglukou, Changjiang 1st road of Yuzhong District and ending at Dahuang Road Flyover (bi-directional) with an overall distance of 3.5 kilometers (one-way).
According to a bus driver, before the use of the bus priority road, it would often take more than 30 minutes from Xiaojiawan to Lianglukou during the morning traffic peak. The bus always been cut off by private vehicles, so that many passengers had to get off and transfer to Line 1. Now with a bus priority road, it only takes ten minutes to travel this section of the road at rush hour.
After September 19, any irregular drivers will be fined 200 yuan during rush hours on weekdays.
According to a patrolman team, seven bus stations were established along the bus priority road, including three from Xiaojiawan to Lianglukou and four from Lianglukou to Xiaojiawan. The running time was scheduled 7:00 to 9:00 and 17:00 to 19:00 in weekdays. During this time period, only buses, airport buses, special vehicles for tasks and school buses are permitted to drive on the bus priority road. Other social vehicles are forbidden. In order to facilitate the identification of the special lane, in addition to the establishment of relevant tips along the bus priority road, the police also painted a red anti-slip coating on the ground and wrote characters of "bus only".
One constable, Wang Yinbo, who was on duty at Changjiang 2nd road of Yangtze River told the reporter that he has handled 3 social vehicles which broke the rule and drove on bus priority road within half an hour. Because it happened in the propaganda and education period from September 12 to 18, Wang just criticized and educated the drivers; besides, he explained and publicized the relevant stipulation on bus priority road on the spot.
Traffic and patrol polices remind the citizens that all social vehicles that break the rule and drive on the bus priority road will be fined 200 yuan starting September 19 according to the stipulation of the list 37 of Road Traffic Safety Law of the People's Republic of China. By then, there will be common monitoring by electronic police, patrol law enforcement in the scene and snapshot equipment on the buses. The general public is expected to obey the traffic order.
