Wenjiang designs greenway blueprint

2017-09-15 11:17:01

Chengdu's Wenjiang district has announced plans to build 351.5 kilometers of greenways and a 460-kilometer slow traffic system by the year of 2020.

The district currently has 163 kilometers of greenways, including 11 kilometers in urban areas with the remainder sprawling through surrounding towns and villages.

"Wenjiang has a good ecological foundation for greenways," said an official from the district's construction bureau. "But the existing greenways are not connected in any order."

To improve the greenway system, the local construction bureau will make use of the existing gardens and parks, improving the facilities and buildings.

This year the district will build a tourism circle line, stretching 65 kilometers in the northern part of the region. The greenways will be upgraded next year. Meanwhile, the water system will undergo comprehensive treatment to benefit the area.

In 2019, the district will further connect the greenways and slow traffic system. By the year of 2020, the entire traffic network will be completed to better serve local residents and tourists.
