RABAT, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- UN experts from North Africa will gather in Rabat on October 3-6 to discuss youth employment and sustainable development in the region, a UN body announced Friday.

The expert will study challenges African youths face when looking for jobs and existing youth employment policies that present opportunities to the youths, the North Africa Office of the UN Economic Committee for Africa (ECA) said in a statement.

Participants will also examine a draft study on good practices used to promote sustainable youth employment and empowerment in North Africa, the statement said.

Members of the Intergovernmental Committee of Experts (ICE), a statutory body of the ECA, will also outline ECA's work programme and strategic orientations in North Africa, it added.

The meeting will allow representatives from member countries such as Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Tunisia and Sudan to assess the work carried out by the ECA office in North Africa.

Recommendations presented at this meeting will be submitted to the Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, a deliberative body of the ECA.

According to UN statistics, 30 percent of the world population were youths aged between 15 and 24 in 2015.

In Africa, where experts expect the number of youths to increase throughout the 21st century, it is estimated that the youth population will increase to 321 million as early as 2030, from 226 million in 2015.
