CHENGDU, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Medtronic, a global medical equipment development company, Tuesday broke ground on its Chengdu Innovation Center at Singapore-Sichuan Hi-Tech Innovation Park in Chengdu.

Due to open in 2020, the center will provide a cross-disciplinary clinical training and research platform for medical workers from central and western China.

The center will be equipped with cutting-edge simulation systems and equipment, helping improve clinical skills and increase learning efficiency of medical workers through a highly-simulated training environment and tiered training curriculums, the company said.

Within five years of operation, Metronic's Chengdu center will have an annual training capacity of nearly 7,000 healthcare professionals, it said.
