“Weird” food in Chongqing

I was full of curiosity about it when I heard for the first time: what kind of food is it exactly? After seeing it, I know it is food steamed with a mini food steamer; the name “Gege” is local dialect (for mini food steamer). The “Gege” with perfect combination of color, aroma and taste is very delicious.

Glutinous rice lard Zongzi 糯米油粽

Glutinous rice lard Zongzi is a snack from Jinfo Mountain, Nanchuan. The Zongzi is crisp on the surface but soft inside and tastes glutinous and fragrant. It has a pyramid shape and looks like corn, so it is also called “Yu Shu (corn)”

Ash tofu 灰豆腐

Ash tofu is the gem of wisdom of Miao people, which is made by stir-frying tofu with ash and then removing the ash. It has bouffant appearance and soft and sponge-like inside. After it is cooked, it can absorb soup and tastes very delicious.

There are many other “weird” foods like fermented glutinous rice with lard, odd taste broad bean and Banjiu tofu in Chongqing.
