A charming city of bridges, an amazing “mountain city”

2017-10-24 11:42:05

For Chongqing, bridges represent the innovation of the city. Generally, bridges are divided into four major categories: beam bridges, arch bridges, cable-stayed bridges and suspension bridges, all of which can be found in Chongqing. The main span of Shibanpo Yangtze River Double-line Bridge stretches over 330 meters, which is the largest span of this type in the world. Caiyuanba Yangtze River Bridge is the largest dual-purpose long span arch bridge for buses and light rail; Chaotianmen Yangtze River Bridge is the world's longest span steel arch bridge with a length of 552 meters. This kind of innovative spirit has been honored during the construction process of new bridges. For example, Hongyan Village Bridge is the first cable-stayed bridge with high and low towers for dual purposes of bus and light rail in Chongqing. The Zengjiayan station of Line 10 which was built on Zengjiayan Bridge will be the first light rail station on a bridge in China. The Cuntan Yangtze River Bridge, combines the Chinese traditional Pailou structure and culture symbol with modern bridge structure, creating the largest "Chinese knot" of bridges in the world.

For Chongqing, bridges are closely connected with people's livelihood. In the urban area, crossing the bridge is a compulsory course for every citizen. Because there are many bridges built, two large river-spanning bridges will be distributed every five kilometers. About 60% of the population will go through more than two bridges every day. The bridges like Huanghuayuan Bridge, Egongyan Bridge, Yuao Bridge and Jiahua Bridge have become important choices for citizens.

Chongqing bridges not only look beautiful during the day, but also at night. The lights of Dongshuimen Bridge, Qiansimen Bridge, Jiayue Bridge and Dafosi Bridge are all impressive, interpreting the beauty of the city.
