Vehicles turned into tourist attractions

On October 24, 1987, the Chongqing Yangtze River Cableway began operation. The trip across the river is 1166 meters which takes five minutes each way. The cable car can hold a maximum of 80 people. This Cableway is called the first "aerial corridor" of Yangtze River.

The operation of the Yangtze River Cableway shortens both distance and time for the public, becoming one of the most important ways for citizens to travel.

Since the late 90s, with the rapid development of urban public transportation systems, the Yangtze River Cableway reduced both its traffic function and the passenger capacity.

In the face of this bleak condition, how can the Yangtze River Cableway be revitalized? Finally, the Chongqing Passenger Ropeway Company embarked upon the reform and innovation of the Yangtze River Cableway.

Through continuous observation, learning and discussion, the planning of tourist attractions has been put on the schedule. Yangtze River Cableway now is going through a transformation from urban traffic modality to a major tourist attraction.

Making scientific planning

Synchronized upgrade of hardware and software

In order to optimize the tourism function of cableway, the company launched an all-around engineering overhaul to upgrade the driving wheel system, cable system, electrical equipment system, cable car appearance and security facilities.

At the same time, the company hired a professional marketing team, aiming to build the Yangtze River Cableway into one of the must-visit scenic spots in Chongqing.

In January 2014, the new Yangtze River Cableway reopened to the public as a tourist attraction and was immediately favored by tourists from all over the country. That year, 1.18 million visitors were served. Yangtze River Cableway has also become a member of Chongqing’s "million tourists scenic spot club".

Urban air travel becomes popular throughout the country

Data shows the Yangtze River Cableway has served nearly three million visitors, an increase of 28.51% compared to last year. The "Chongqing City Air Tour" and "Chongqing Night Air Tour" which were modeled after the Yangtze River Cableway have become well-known tourism brands in China.

The company is fully committed to the work of building a national 4A level scenic spot. After three years, the new Jialing River Cableway will relieve the stress of Yangtze River Cableway. By then, the two rivers will adopt differentiated operation. What we can imagine is that both cableways will combine to become the most beautiful "Chongqing memory" for tourists in the future.
