MINSK, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Belarus has conducted a successful test of the upgraded multiple-launch rocket system (MLRS) Polonez, Belarusian Defense Ministry said Thursday.

The ministry said in a statement that the test firing of the upgraded MLRS Polonez was carried out on the territory of the Gomel region in south Belarus. The rocket hit the designated targets after flying over uninhabited and sparsely populated areas of the country.

The test result of the system confirmed the unique capabilities of this new weapon which can strike assigned targets with high accuracy within a radius of 300 kilometers, the ministry said.

The long-range MLRS Polonez has been designed by Belarusian defense companies. Its performance is on par with the world's best multiple-launch rocket systems.

In the future, the Armed Forces of Belarus will be equipped with the upgraded MLRS Polonez, greatly improving its capability to solve various kinds of firing tasks, the ministry said.
