CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The poetic stars, pigeons and branches made from lights are designed by Chongqing University for Zhaomu Mountain. Now, the project has been awarded the 2017 Annual Excellence of IES Lighting Award.

The annual IES Lighting Award is given by the 100-year IES, and is one of the top-three lighting design awards in the world and represents the highest lighting design level.

“As a mountainous city, Chongqing has different road lighting compared with other cities.” Said Yan Yonghong, dean of the Building Technology Science of the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning, Chongqing University. She led her team to design the lighting for Zhaomu Mountain. The lights needed to cover an area of 1,300mu, and the project held many difficulties in design. “Many citizens go to Zhaomu Mountain at night, so the lighting is required. At night, the plants and animals have to sleep, so we should balance ecological protection and citizen’s demands.”

They first researched the plants and animals along with their habitat distribution in the garden. Then they designed the lighting according to their features.

In addition, they combined the scenic spots and produced an innovative concept of “moonlight lighting”. They used the shadow of the flowers, plants and trees to make projections. When the lights are on, the shadow of the moon, flowers, and trees will appear too, and you can even see “pigeons” flying among trees. (Translated by Liu Hongyan, Fathom Language Limited)
