Dadukou District 大渡口区

There is a free ferry along the Yangtze River. In the late Qing Dynasty, a gentry of Baxian set free ferries along the Yangtze River and this ferry was the largest, called “Dadukou” (the largest ferry). It became a district in 1965.

Jiangbei District 江北区

Because it is located north of the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers, it is called “Jiangbei” (the north of river). It was changed from Chongqing Dier (the second) District to Jiangbei District in 1955.

Shapingba District 沙坪坝区

A plain sandbank on the Yangtze River. Shapingaba was a small sandbank and was a main cultural area of the Shaci District during the Anti-Japanese War. It was officially named Shapingba District in 1955.
