Xi’an-Chengdu High-speed Railway to open on December 6

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The China Railway Chengdu Group Co., Ltd. reported that Xi’an-Jiangyou Section of the Xi’an-Chengdu High-speed Railway will officially begin service on December 6, and the whole railway will be running from then on. Passengers can buy tickets for the Xi’an-Chengdu High-speed Railway from railway station windows, ticket agency, the 12306 website and mobile client. When the Xi’an-Chengdu High-speed Railway begins service, it will take only five and a half hours to go from Chongqing to Xi’an.

The Xi’an-Chengdu High-speed Railway is the first high-speed railway connecting southwest and northwest China through the Qinling mountains. It is also an integral part of China’s rapid passenger transport channel. The railway runs 658 kilometers from north Xi’an to east Chengdu, and has an overall running speed of 250km/h. The line starts from Xi’an City, Shaanxi Province, passes by Hanzhong, Guangyuan and enters Sichuan Province, connecting with the existing Mianyang-Chengdu-Leshan Railway and ending at Chengdu City.

The construction of Xi’an-Jiangyou Section of Xi’an-Chengdu High-speed Railway commenced in December 2012 and the testing and commissioning began in June 2017. At the initial period, nine pairs of direct trains from Chengdu East, Chongqingbei to Xi’anbei will be arranged by the railway department, including seven pairs from Chengdu East to Xi’anbei and two pairs from Chongqingbei to Xi’anbei. The travel time from Chengdu to Xi’an will be cut from 11 hours currently to about four hours, while that from Chongqing to Xi’an will go from nine hours to five and a half. It will be faster and more convenient to get to northwest China from Chengdu and Chongqing.

According to the China Railway Chengdu Group Co., Ltd., the second-class ticket price from Chengdu East to Xi’anbei Station is RMB 263 and that from Chongqingbei to Xi’anbei Station is 279.5. (Translated by Huang Juan, Fathom Language Limited)
