Incense Museum

2017-12-11 09:56:10

In addition to the title of Museum Curator, Ling Kun is also an incense making master who once lived and worked in Vietnam for many years. Vietnam is a famous origin of Hoi An eaglewood. In order to look for good incense material, Ling Kun went all over the markets in Hoi An and also paid much in “tuition fees” at the beginning. He also once collected eaglewood in a tropical rainforest with local incense farmers.

Except for very few kinds of eaglewood that generate an aroma at room temperature, eaglewood only produces a pleasant scent at temperatures over 60°C. For eaglewood raw materials collected from different places in Asia, Ling Kun needs to light up one by one with a lighter to smell and judge the scent of totally different qualities. Sometimes several lighters are emptied in an effort to select just one kilogram of raw materials. After more than 10 years of exploration of “incense lore”, he has gradually become an industry authority and standards setter.
