CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The Chongqing section of the Wangzhou-Lichuan Expressway (Wanzhou, Chongqing to Lichuan, Hubei) has opened and the Lichuan section is open as well. The whole Wangzhou-Lichuan Expressway is now open to traffic. It only takes about 40 minutes from Wanzhou to Lichuan by car, down from the previous 2.5 hours.

It is more convenient to travel when the traffic is getting more efficient. Let’s check the attractions along the route.

Attractions in Wanzhou

Taibaiyan Mountain 太白岩山

If you want to overlook the entire view of Wanzhou, go climb the Taibaiyan Mountain. At the top of the mountain, you will have a panoramic view of Wanzhou.

Wanzhou Waterfall 万州大瀑布

Wanzhou Waterfall Scenic Area is located at Ganning Township, Wanzhou District. The waterfall is 64.5 meters high and 105 meters wide, 19 meters wider than the famous Huangguoshu Waterfall. It is the largest waterfall in Asia. The waterfall is bow-liked and is worthy of the name of “water curtain cave”. Walk forward along the path behind the waterfall and you will find a stone cave about 2,000m2, where it is the best place for tourists to sit and watch the waterfall.

Tanzhang Gorge 潭獐峡

Tanzhang Gorge is about 20km long and 30-80m wide. There are many pools along the gorge and river deer appear to drnk, so it is called Tanzhang Gorge (gorge with pools and river deer). There are 7 branches, 24 peaks and 48 creeks along the gorge. The uncanny workmanship of nature creates the idyllic natural landscape in many forms.

Large and Small Stone Cities 大小石城

Wanzhou Tianzi City and Mopaizhai are known collectively as the large and small stone cities. Wanzhou Tianzi City is an ancient stockaded village on a high isolated peak surrounded by cliffs, which is accessible by only one way. It is said that the Emperor Liu Bei of Shu once stationed his troops there when attacking the Kingdom of Wu, so it is called Tianzi City (city of emperor).
