CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- As night falls, a huge ball building seated by river will be lit. It is like a smiling clown, with its mouth wide open, and visitors will walk in through its mouth to watch excellent shows. This building will debut this May. As a new cultural landmark of Chongqing, the International Circus City has entered the final countdown to the premiere. It will begin trial operation in May. The acrobatic drama Dayu, which was created by the Chongqing Acrobatic Troupe, will be presented in October.

Chongqing International Circus City is the only circus city in Southwest China and the first-class professional theater for acrobatics in China.

Starlight appearance

The Circus City is located at Nanbin Road under the Dafosi Bridge. It is comprised of a spherical building and a row of ribbon constructions. The spherical main body, being looked from a distance, is like the eyes of a clown and the glass gate of it is like his open mouth.

Going upstairs and walking in, the auditorium cell is decorated by hundreds of pen-point lamps, which will be lit at night, shining like the stars in the sky.

High-tech design

As the top priority of the Circus City, the auditorium is all built to Russia’s technical standard of circus performance. The interior design is quite high-tech, in order to offer people the best acrobatic shows.

The auditorium has eight exits and can accommodate 1,498 spectators, who can have a 180-degree view of the stage. Walking into the auditorium recently, the performers from Chongqing Acrobatic Troupe were practicing on the stage.

In the center of the theater, a circular “paddock stage” — covering an area of nearly 250m2 — is closely linked to a “proscenium”. The proscenium is the stage mainly for acrobatics, music drama, dance and other stage plays.

The proscenium is matched with a nearly 100m2 LED screen, which will display a “door” with a height of 20m during a performance. Some large props like a giant truck can be sent to the stage through this “door”. (Translated by Xu Mengmiao, Fathom Language Limited)
