Why not have a date with the cute dogs in the coming New Year?

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The Chinese Zodiac has a long standing culture in China, and the dog has always been regarded as “human’s most faithful friend”. The other day, “New Year Culture: Dogs of Happiness” Exhibition was opened at the Three Gorges Museum, showcasing cultural relics relevant to Chinese Zodiac (dog) and New Year customs. Visitors may find over 200 sets of exhibits including 185 valuable cultural relics collected by the Three Gorges Museum, covering categories such as ceramics, jade, New Year pictures and paper cuttings, most of which are being exhibited for the first time.

Celebrate the New Year with cute dogs

The exhibition is divided into three sections: Stories of Chinese Zodiacs, Smart Dogs and Folk Customs of Chinese New Year. Visitors can learn about the origins and influence of the Chinese Zodiac, the role played by dogs in Chinese people’s life and customs of Chinese New Year.

Visitors may not only find various New Year pictures and paper cuttings, but also greet cute dogs such as painted pottery dogs of Han Dynasty and small porcelain dogs from Qiong Kiln of Tang Dynasty. In addition, numerous ceramic dogs from the Han Dynasty excavated in Chongqing will also be exhibited.

So why were so many pottery dogs from the Han Dynasty excavated in Chongqing? During the Han Dynasty, Sichuan and Chongqing had a large population, and the residents here lived an affluent life. In addition to pottery dogs, many other remains of the Han Dynasty have been excavated in Sichuan and Chongqing.

As a component of the New Year exhibition series, “Dogs of Happiness” will last from January 24 to March 25. (Translated by Sun Jiuyang, Fathom Language Limited)
