Laba Festival in Chongqing means neighborhood and love festival

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- "Don't be greedy in mouth because spring festival will come after the Laba Festival". The word "Laba" described in the saying refers to Laba Festival, the eighth day of la yue (腊月), or the lunar month of December. Laba is the symbol of celebrating spring festival, so a series of folk activities also started.

On January 24, the districts and counties of Chongqing also organized a series of Laba Festival activities. When people taste Laba porridge, they feel the warmth and spring festival atmosphere.

Shapingba: Laba porridge keeps warm stomach and heart

On January 24, Hongyan volunteers are presenting Laba porridge to passers-by at Tongjiaqiao Street, the entrance to Phase 2 of Hongyanhun Square, in Shapingba District. The sweet-scented porridge can be seen everywhere during Laba Festival. The Hongyan volunteers, together with Yijia social workers, purchased the ingredients of glutinous rice, red bean, and red date in advance. Banan: Folk-themed activity to welcome Laba Festival

On January 24, the Xueping Hongdao Practice Education Base Of Banan Chinese Traditional Culture participated in the activity "Laba brings love home". That day, the traditional Laba Festival was held here. The interactive activities of having Laba porridge, listening to folk music, tasting tea and writing couplets created a meaningful Laba Festival for over than 300 people enjoying the atmosphere of traditional culture. Beibei: Making Hundred-Family Banquet

On January 24, the first neighborhood festival was held in Yongxing Village, Liuyin Town, Beibei District. More than 1,000 villagers gathered at the "Hundred-Family Banquet" to celebrate the Laba Festival and welcome the Spring Festival with the vision of rejuvenating the countryside and portraying the beauty of their hometown. Yongxing Village got rid of the title of "municipal poverty village" at the end of 2015. After two years of poverty alleviation, the difficulties on transportation, water drinking and housing of whole village were solved. The villagers embarked on a road of common prosperity. Qianjiang: Laba Festival theme activities

On January 24, the children were playing folk music at Wuling Square in Qianjiang District. On the same day, public benefit activities with the theme of "Fuhuilaba, Xiaoxingtianxia" were held by Qianjiang District. Volunteers prepared hot Laba porridge for the public.
