At the beginning of this year, Jack Ma led Alibaba and Ant Financial Services Group to reach an agreement with Chongqing to develop the "smart Chongqing" project. It is reported that more than 8,700 buses will be accept mobile phone payment in the urban districts during the year and rail transit is expected to be paid by mobile phone in the next year.

During the year, residents of the urban districts will not only be able to take bus by bus card but also scan QR code by WeChat and Alipay. In addition, passengers can buy bus tickets by Union Pay card.

There are more than 8,700 buses and more than 600 bus lines in the main urban districts now. At the end of last year, after the launch of WeChat and Alipay payments by mobile phone by the Yangtze River Cableway and some cruise taxies, buses also began to test the payment by Unionpay and Alipay. Currently, the T480 tourism and sightseeing bus in Yuzhong District is the first bus in the main city to enable Alipay mobile payment.

The mobile payment system for more than 8,700 buses in the main city will be divided into two phases. During the first stage this year, the popularization will be achieved for 300 bus lines and more than 2,000 buses in the main districts. Next, the remaining 6,000 buses will introduce mobile payment by WeChat, Alipay and Unionpay card. At that time, the bus mobile payment will be fully covered for Chongqing buses in the main urban districts. With the use of mobile payment, the original fare system of the bus will not change.

23 Electronic bus-stop boards will be added in this year.

In addition to mobile payments, other kinds of the bus intelligent construction will also advanced rapidly. According to Chongqing City Transportation Development & Investment Group Co., Ltd., 17 electronic bus-stop boards were put into operation last year. They will launch 23 new boards this year. The new boards will be mainly established on the bus priority channel and on the site with large passenger traffic.

The electronic bus stop boards adopt a new generation of application system combining global satellite navigation technology, advanced communication modes, geographic information system technology, advanced video transmission technology and intelligent sensors. The system can provide real-time and accurate vehicle arrival forecast and other information services in both Chinese and English for waiting passengers. In addition, passengers can also check the balance of the bus card and top up online by scanning the QR code.

In order to bring more conveniences for passengers to check the bus routes and the operation in real time, Chongqing City Transportation Development & Investment Group has launched the mobile phone application - Chongqing electronic bus stop APP.

After downloading and installing the "Chongqing electronic bus-stop board APP", the system will automatically update positioning. By clicking on the nearby site, the system will show you the bus stops, routes and directions from 500m.

For passengers who have definite destinations, by inputting direct location or bus lines, the system will show the real-time running condition and stations along the bus line. It also can be seen whether there are buses which are ready to depart. By clicking on any station, you can see the arrival time of this bus line and the distance with the next bus.

The Chongqing electronic bus-stop APP has already covered 98% bus lines in the urban districts, by which public can check the distance and operation time of the bus lines in real time.

Next year, scanning QR code to purchase tickets is expected to be achieved for rail transit.

It's introduced that scanning QR code to purchase tickets is expected to be achieved for Chongqing rail transit in next year. Passengers will be able to pay for rail transit through WeChat and Alipay. The mobile payment terminal devices will also be reserved for new rail transit network.
