DAMASCUS, Feb. 27 (Xinhua) -- A warplane with the U.S.-led anti-terror coalition struck a Syrian military position in the country's eastern province of Deir al-Zour on Monday, activists and al-Jazeera TV said.

The U.S.-led warplane reportedly struck the Syrian position in the northern countryside of Deir al-Zour, according to the report, which spelled no further details.

There has been no immediate comments from Damascus.

If true, the attack would be the second U.S.-led assault on government forces this month.

Earlier this month, the U.S.-led coalition struck a position of pro-Syrian government forced in Deir al-Zour, killing dozens of them.

The Syrian government condemned the attack, while the U.S. coalition said it was a retaliatory action against the Syrian forces' attack on pro-U.S. force in Syria.
