CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Chongqing has become the third city to support road testing of autonomous vehicles following Beijing and Shanghai. The Chongqing Vehicle Inspection and Research Institute (National Center for Quality Supervision and Inspection of Passenger Cars) announced that the roads for the tests in the Jinfeng area of Jiulongpo District have been tentatively determined. This means that “road test” for autonomous vehicle is on the agenda.

More authoritative institutions and more test items

The proposed regulations for road test of autonomous vehicles in Chongqing, Beijing and Shanghai are generally the same with only minor differences.

For instance, in Beijing, the third party authorized by joint working group is responsible for supervising road tests. In Shanghai, the Shanghai Manufacturing Innovation Center (Intelligent Network Car), as the third party entrusted by advance working group, accepted the test application of the Intelligent Network Car. In the case of Chongqing, the National Automobile Quality Supervision and Inspection Agency will accept the test application as the third party and issue a professional review. In addition, they will be responsible for road tests of the autonomous vehicles, supervision and test evaluation.

Compared to Beijing and Shanghai, Chongqing has no limit for test items, which means there will be more test items for autonomous vehicles in Chongqing.

Furthermore, according to regulations, the traffic safety management department is responsible for identification of traffic accidents and illegal activities, identifying whether either test driver or test applicant bears responsibility of traffic accident during road test, if any.
