CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Shibati is regenerated, Baixiang Street presents the demeanor of a commercial port and Huguang Guild Hall manifests the migration culture. In recent years, Yuzhong District has made efforts to promote the construction of historical and cultural blocks to have the “Mother Town” culture go into the people’s life.

The historical and cultural blocks, nicknamed “lower downtown” by Chongqing-ers, comprises Chaotianmen, Nanjimen and Qixinggang sub-districts. It is the cradle of Chongqing’s “Mother Town” and is rich in history and culture.

Shibati, as a cultural representative connecting the upper and lower downtown, is an important symbol inheriting urban essence and manifesting the flavor of “Mother Town”. In 2017, Yuzhong began the construction of the Shibati Traditional Conservation Area.

“Every building there will be given an ID after completion.” said Zhong Feipeng, general manager of the Chongqing Shibati Culture Development Company. The historic features of Shibati will be retained during construction and each one of the 48 old buildings has stories to tell through its architectural features, style and history.
