Recently, the Municipal Planning Bureau and the Municipal Survey Institute introduced the 9th place of “Hand-painted Chongqing”, which is the traditional style area of the Great Hall of the People.

The design imitated Ming and Qing’s palace architecture

The Great Hall of the People in Chongqing, one of traditional characteristic style protection region in the southwest region, is a unique landmark in Chongqing, one of the top ten cultural symbols in Chongqing and a national 4A tourist attraction.

The traditional characteristic style region of the Great Hall of the People in Chongqing is located in the upper half of the Yuzhong District, and has a total area of 12.83 hectares. Among them, about 5.77 hectares are core area and about 7.06 hectares are construction control areas.

The Great Hall of the People in Chongqing was founded in 1951 and was completed in 1954. It imitated the Ming and Qing’s palace architectural design and is one of the landmark buildings in Chongqing. It is one of the most magnificent auditorium buildings in New China.

This is a classic production of Chongqing's municipal construction after liberation. Its magnificent appearance and splendid grounds are loved by countless Chinese and foreign tourists.

According to the Municipal Planning Bureau, the world architectural fields’ good recognition of this outstanding building reflects the important position of the "great hall" in the landmark buildings of Chongqing. Today, the Great Hall of the People in Chongqing is still an important symbol of cultural tourism in Chongqing.

This outstanding building is not only a venue for Chongqing to hold important conferences and receptions for foreign guests, but also an important gathering place for the people of Chongqing. It has very important historical traits and cultural heritage protection values.

The center hall of the Great Hall of the People is divided into three parts: the Center Hall, the South Building and the North Building. The last two of them have three floors and share one ground floor. It adopts the Chinese traditional axial symmetry and the three-dimensional part imitates Tiantan and Tiananmen Square.

In order to avoid monotony, it is matched with colonnade-style north and south wings and finished with towers.
