Learn and be entertained at these National Science Education Bases

2018-03-30 10:06:23

1. Qijiang National Geological Park

Qijiang National Geological Park consists of three parts: Fossil Wood, Laoying Mountain and Gujian Mountain. It centers on typical and precious fossil wood, dinosaur fossils, and Danxia landform. It incorporates natural and hilly landscape, water scenery, natural ecology and human contributions. The park is of great scientific value in the study of Mesozoic geologic evolution history, paleogeography, and paleoclimate. The growth and development conditions of ancient animals and plants in the Southwest China are topics covered, making this a fascinating science education base.

2. Chongqing Crocodile Breeding Center

Chongqing Crocodile Breeding Center was established at the end of the last century. The Center serves as an endangered animal research and breeding facility. It is also a popular science education center, and an education and tourism center centering on crocodilian and tropical forest animals. The park consists of many sections, including a science museum and animal viewing area. After nearly two decades of development, it has become an important base for biology education in our city and is also one of the important sites for wildlife conservation, which has successfully bred many rare animals such as alligator sinensis (also known as the “Chinese alligator”).

3. Chongqing Science and Technology Museum

Chongqing Science and Technology Museum has six theme exhibition halls: Living Science and Technology, Disaster Prevention Science and Technology, Transportation Science and Technology, National Defense Science and Technology, Aerospace Science and Technology and Basic Science. There are also two special exhibition halls of Children's Science Parks and The Light of Industrial. In design, the Science and Technology Museum uses two kinds of materials: stone and glass. The stone is like a hard rock (a metaphor for "mountain"), and the glass curtain wall is clear and transparent, (metaphor for "water") — just right to highlight the characteristics of the "landscape city" of Chongqing.

4. Jinfo Mountain National Nature Reserve

Jinfo Mountain National Nature Reserve is located in the transitional zone between the southeastern edge of the Sichuan Basin and the Yunnan-Kweichow Plateau, with undulating ridge and gully aspect. The reserve has extremely rich wild animal and plant resources, a harmonious and stable natural ecosystem. It is of great significance in botany, forestry, ecology and environmental science.

5. Baiheliang Underwater Museum

Baiheliang (White Crane Ridge) is located in the middle of the Yangtze River in the north of Fuling, known as the “World’s First Ancient Hydrological Station”. The world’s first underwater museum was built on the original site because of the construction of the Three Gorges Project. The shiyu water gage and inscriptions in the museum recorded changes in the water level of dry seasons in the upstream of the Yangtze River from the Tang Dynasty up to now. This provides excellent physical evidence for the research of the hydrology of Yangtze River and the historical law of climate changes in the global region. These inscriptions include literary, calligraphy, painting, and stone carving arts, which have extremely high scientific and application value. (Translated by Gao Jiao, Fathom Language Limited)
