The engraving time in the leaves

2018-04-13 09:44:31

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Pieces of fallen leaves lay on the ground. Pedestrians hurried and there was hardly anybody to pay attention to them. He walked over and leaned over, gently picked up one of them, looked up at the warm sunshine of spring to examine it carefully. He is our protagonist of today. Li Kai, a sophomore at the College of Power Engineering of Chongqing University, who turned those obscure leaves into beautiful art works with his carving knife. He will be moving from the Huxi Campus to the Shapingba Campus in the next semester, so he carved the beloved library in the leaves.

In November 2017, Li Kai accidentally saw a leaf carving work on the internet and was immediately surprised. “When it's just a leaf, you don’t care about it, but when it becomes a leaf carving work, it can surprise you, as if the world has melted into that little leaf." Li Kai was determined to learn how to make leaf carvings. Without any guidance, he searched information on the internet, watched videos, and started self-study. The colorful leaves on campus in November became the best place for him to search for leaves.

To complete a leaf carving work, the first thing is to select the right leaves, for which the toughness, size, and thickness are all criteria. When he saw satisfactory leaves, he would collect them and bring them back to the dormitory. Unconsciously, he has saved a large bucket. "Autumn leaves are better for their toughness, and the leaves in this season are relatively crisp. It's very easy to break down when you try to carve it." Li Kai said "Fortunately, I have more than 100 pieces of stock."
