A two-hour high-definition movie can be downloaded in one second with the coming of 5G in Chongqing

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- A two-hour high-definition movie can be downloaded in one second with 5G! Recently, the opening ceremony for a 5G test network was held by China Mobile’s Chongqing Branch. A much faster and more intelligent era has already come.

The speed of 5G is 100 times of 4G while its service delay is only one tenth of that of 4G.

Chongqing, among the first batch of cities to build and test run 5G networks approved by National Development and Reform Commission, now comes out on top of the construction of 5G.

What benefits will 5G take to us? The most crucial benefit is its speed.

The reporter and the officials of Chongqing Branch did a field test at the site. It shows that the network rate of 5G is over 10Gbps, which is 100 times of 4G. This means that a two-hour high-definition movie can be downloaded in one second. 3 milliseconds of service delay is only one tenth of that of 4G. More realistic experiences can be enjoyed in VR games through this network rate.

The testing room has connectivity points every square meter to provide 5G access of everything.

Currently, we often use 2G for calls, 3G for surfing the Internet and updating micro-blog in a low speed and 4G for high-speed video call. It will become much faster in the future. Its linking density reaches to 1 million per square kilometer, which is 10 times of that of 4G. It also means that there will be a link point in every square meter to realize interlinkage of everything in the future.

China Mobile said that 5G applications have clearly been incorporated into driverless car technology now. It greatly improves the reaction speed of the radar of the driverless car. When faced with obstacles, the cars can circumvent them faster. In addition to the driverless car, 5G applications have also been adapted for pilotless plane, intelligent healthcare, AR, VR and other fields.

The researchers are able to control robots better, as they are able to use the mechanical arm without any latency. The mechanical arm and the controllers make the movements almost without any delay through the uRLLC communication technology of 5G. In the future the mechanical arm will replace manpower for remote operations.

Intelligent glasses also attracted lots of people. Real-time conversation will be made possible between technicians and officials on the site through the intelligent glasses. The officials of China Mobile’s Chongqing Branch said that this technology will be applied to emergency and disaster relief, technological guidance and other fields. Thus even though professional workers aren’t aviailable on the site, they will be able to work remotely and realize real-time guidance.

When will 5G be applied?

According to Chongqing Branch, 5G network is in a testing stage and there are currently two base stations. The testing network has entered operation in Liangjiang New Area and will be expanded to the whole city step by step. Fifty base stations will be built in the main areas of Chongqing this year.

The test network is open to companies and individuals, including cooperative partners, manufacturers and upstream and downstream industry chains of China Mobile, which have the intention of jointly carrying out 5G innovations, in areas such as the Internet of Vehicles, automatic driving, smart cities and online AR/VR. The test period will last until the official 5G commercialization. The charge during the testing period is at a low cost or sometimes even free.
