CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- On the morning of the 23rd, in celebration of World Book Day and Chongqing Book Month - "walking books" entered the Chongqing Jiangbei Airport. In order to improve the reading habits of the entire nation and build the literacy of Chongqing, volunteers offered reading materials to the passengers to pass their waiting time.

Librarians and volunteers wearing yellow vests became “walking books” and walked into the waiting hall of Jiangbei Airport to give books to tourists. They called on everyone to put down their mobile phones and take up books to feel faint ink.

It is reported that “walking books” borrowed the concept of “Reading thousands of volumes and traveling thousands of miles” to allow books to enter public places so that citizens in busy cities could use commuting and leisure time to regain their reading habits and discover poems and distant places in books. The event was first launched in 2016. The staff of the Chongqing Library has covered all major business districts, post offices, cultural venues, and some light rail stations in the main city, presenting books to the public. In cooperation with 41 public libraries in all districts and counties in 2017, it finally extended its coverage to all districts and counties in the city to benefit hundreds of thousands of citizens. At this point, "walking books" has become an important brand for all citizens in Chongqing.

To reflect the relevance of this event, the Chongqing Library specially selected Chongqing micro-travel, Chongqing taste, and the beauty of handcrafts to introduce the customs, scenery, cuisines and books with the rich local characteristics of Chongqing. It built bridges for cultural exchanges in different regions and widely promoted Chongqing culture. (Translated by Gao Jiao, Fathom Language Limited)
