Chongqing director nominated for "The Golden Orchids" Award
The movie "De Pi" was adapted from the prose "Mangy dog" by scriptwriter Xie Yi. It tells a story about a fool called “De Pi” who had only made a simple thing in his life – waiting for a girl named Zhang Chengfeng (played by Wang Tianyu) and guarding the beautiful memory of dream and youth between them. The reason why the film chose to shoot such a stubborn fool is that, according to the director Hu Yichuan, he wanted to make a Chinese version of “Forrest Gump”, hoping to arouse audiences' reflection on life, love and dream by the persistence of the leading role.

This is the first time the young Chongqing director Hu Yichuan entered his works to the Cannes International Film Festival. Although he only entered the short-listed parallel unit to compete for the “The Golden Orchids” award, he had worked hard for fifteen years on it. Hu Yichuan said, “[The] Cannes International Film Festival is not only my dream as a filmmaker, but also a source of power for my artistic pursuit.” His goal is the same as that of every filmmaker, which is to win The Golden Palm Award. Although not everyone is enthusiastic about art films, he has a unique complex with it. “People don't go too far and forget about why they set off.” This is not only the original will of the creation of the movie "De Pi" directed by Hu Yichuan but also the original will of a filmmaker.
At this festival, more than 300 films were submitted. The movie “De Pi” directed by Hu Yichuan and the movie “Wolf” directed by Han Tao will be screened at the Cannes International Film Festival. The winning film will participate in the competition for The Golden Orchids award. (Translated by Shi Yali, Fathom Language Limited)
