CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Since 1998, such key projects as Natural Forest Protection, Grain for Green and the Yangtze River Green have been implemented in Wuxi County. The forest coverage has increased to 65.62% from 7.8% of the 1970s. Nowadays, there are nearly 300,000mu of old-growth forests, 53 kinds of national key protected plants, and 36 national key protected animal species. Therefore, Wuxi is called “the largest natural biological species gene bank”. It is an important ecological shelter zone of the Three Gorges Reservoir Region and the Chongqing Municipality.
