Jiulong Tower – the first glass tower of Chongqing and a landmark building of Yangjiaping business district is to be demolished.

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- Jiulongpo District has launched the city quality improvement of Yangjiaping business district and will conduct the largest scale of upgrade.

The upgrade of the Yangjiaping business district is based on “demolishment, transformation and building”. The Jiulong Tower and the large steel structure at the entry of the business district will be demolished, which means that the 14-year-old Jiulong Tower will no longer exist.

Why was it built?

A landmark building is necessary for the business district

In 2003, Yangjiaping district was completed and opened. In 2004, Jiulong Tower was completed and became the landmark building. On December 11th, 2004, the Line 2 was opened and it became a unique scenery when it passed through the tower.

The tower height is 48m. It is the tallest glass symbol tower in Asia and the first glass tower of Chongqing. It has become the “fist image” of many people going to the Yangjiaping business district.

Why was it built? “A landmark building is necessary for the business district,” said the designer from Tongji Architectural Design (Group) Co., Ltd., “If the tower does not exist, the train will directly cross the pedestrian street and divide the business district into two parts. And the tower becomes the center of the business district visually.”
