CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- The conference on establishment of “Chongqing Confucius Institute Consortium” was recently held at Chongqing Normal University. It was reported that the Consortium was a provincial (municipal) consortium second to Shanghai Confucius Institute Consortium. The Chongqing Confucius Institute Consortium will integrate the resources under the guidance of the Confucius Institute Headquarters and Chongqing Municipal Education Commission so as to improve its system and mechanism.

Since 2006, Chongqing has established 16 Confucius Institutes and 28 Confucius Classes with 13 countries, sent over 1,400 Chinese teachers and volunteers to 38 countries, cultivated about 40,000 trainees and benefited cultural activity participants over 1 million person times.

Statistically, Chongqing has held the activities “Chinese Bridge” Foreign Presidents Visiting China for over 980 foreign education administrators and college, senior high school and junior high school presidents in 37 groups. “Chinese Bridge” Summer Camps were held for over 2,300 Confucius Institutes’ trainees and foreign senior high school students in 48 groups, and three sessions of “Chinese Bridge” World Middle School Students’ Chinese Contest.

The “Chongqing Confucius Institute Consortium” includes 18 schools, including seven universities (including Southwest University, Chongqing University, Chongqing Normal University and others), nine middle schools (including Chongqing No.1 Middle School, Chongqing Nankai Middle School and others), and two primary schools (Renmin and Bashu). It is reported that the Consortium will take advantage of integrating resources to improve the opening-up of Chongqing education and make contribution to Sino-foreign cultural exchanges.
