Sichuan Fine Arts Institute Printmaking Art Exhibition kicked off

CHONGQING (CQNEWS) -- On 19th, Sichuan Fine Arts Institute (SFAI) Printmaking Art Exhibition Stretching - Lofty Ideal opened with over 200 works on display, made from 1940 to 2017, a time span of nearly 80 years. This was a representation of the Institute’s unity and coherence in creativity and methodology in full.

Printmaking in SFAI dated back in 1930s. Founders of the printmaking art at SFAI such as Shen Fuwen, Miao Boran and other representative artists Jiang Mi, Xie Ziwen, Li Shaoyan developed modern printmaking in China at a time when they were actively producing wood carving works themed on “anti-Japanese salvation” and “national liberation” in the 1930s and 1940s. Later, though 80 years of development many a talent emerged at SFAI. Representative artists and works can be found in each period of time, having distinct features and following academic traditions. Printmaking at SFAI is an essential part of the development of Chinese modern art as it has its own unique characteristics.

The exhibition has six sections, with timeline after New Woodcarving Movement as a clue, it displays comprehensively the pioneering spirit and many works by people in the Printmaking Department of SFAI. These range from older generation educators to new generation artists, in an exploration of the creative spectrum of old and new historic periods.

The Many Canvases in Huangmao Stockaded Village (《黄矛寨上画布多》)

The Many Canvases in Huangmao Stockaded Village is a work by the famous artist Jiang Bibo in 1982, which depicts a woman wearing national dress. Jiang said that creativity features vary with the times; nevertheless, all those works are in hope and determination for a better life and future.
