Chongqing Jialing River cableway is the first urban cross-river passenger cableway in China and the first self-developed large-scale double-line reciprocating passenger cableway across the river. On January 1, 1982, the Jialing River passenger cableway was completed and opened to trial operation. The cableway, which started on December 15, 1980, has a total length of 740 meters, a maximum capacity of 46 people and a maximum traction speed of 6.5 meters per second, with a total investment of 3.78 million Yuan. The cableway has carried more than 100 million passengers over the past 29 years, and at its peak 25,400 passengers per day were moved. Since 2010, the original station of the cableway was located in the tunnel between the Qiansimen Bridge and the Dongshuimen Bridge, above the Yuzhong District tunnel of light rail line six. The construction of the tunnel had a great impact on the structure of the cableway station. So when it needed to be dismantled or rebuilt, the cableway of Jialing River would be forced to adapt to the new traffic planning. On March 1, 2011, the cableway of Jialing River was officially suspended from the outside. In February 2014, the demolition was completed.
